Twitter 101

Twitter is a social networking service that allows you to answer the question, "What are you doing?" by sending 140 character long text updates called "tweets" to your friends or "followers." The short format of the tweet allows quick, informal information sharing. Originally created as a micro blogging tool to replace excessive emailing and IMs, Twitter has grown to have over 145 million users. Twitter enables communication with people you wouldn't normally exchange email or IM messages with, opening up your circle of contacts to an ever-growing community. Twitter has made it easy to tweet by allowing you to send your message updates using the Twitter website directly, as a single SMS (phone) alert, or with several third-party applications. Your tweets are displayed on your profile page, on the Twitter public timeline, and on each of your followers' homepage.

Twitter has many uses for both personal and merchant services business use. It’s an easy way to keep in touch with friends and quickly post information about what you are up to and where you are.

For credit card payment processing business, Twitter can be used to broadcast your merchant services company’s latest news, blog posts, sales, events, and interact with your customers and fans. There are even ways to automate tweets when you’ve posted a blog.

Tweets can be about anything. For personal use, you can tell people where you ate lunch and what you thought of it. Or for merchant acquiring iso business use, you can broadcast product or service information, help others solve problems (with your services), share sage industry advice, and much more.

From there, customers can spread the word by “re-tweeting” your updates. Viral marketing has never been so easy.

Twitter is great for growing your network of contacts. With a long list of followers your short, timely tweets can give your credit card processor company a powerful boost with your online presence.
